Jewel in the Lotus is the first album from Julian Franks although
of course it's not a solo performance, there are many musicians
& singers performing. It is a labour of love and has taken two
years to come together. Like our heartbeat, the rhythm of music
gives the beat and pulse - the timing. Life is all about timing.
The words on the album say a lot about how Julian feels.
Right here we thank YOU, brothers & sisters, for your interest
- we hope you enjoy it. |
| The New Album... |
... is here! After one year of working on his Album, Jules (Julian) Franks has finally completed his second solo recording "Can We Return to the Heart".
The main developement on this second outing is that Jules is the main vocalist on all of the six tracks. That is a huge departure for him, but he felt that it was a very necessary step to take. Jules said on this topic "On my first album I had many guest singers, who were all female. They did a splendid job and it had helped to shape that album and give it a certain identity. My inspiration had been very much my journeys to India and Nepal."
"On this new work, the words to the songs (which are derived from poems) are much more to do with my own life, personal transformations, and inspirations. They are I believe and hope, a little more enigmatic, and allow the listener to make his own interpretations on what the songs mean to them. It just seemed to make more sense for me to put my own voice to the songs. It was almost impossible for me to have gone out and performed the last work 'Live' because of the number of artists needed. This time I am intending to go and put a band together and go on the festival and concert circuit." - read more on Julian's MySpace site.

| 'Beyond Face & Name' EP released January 2006 |
Beyond Face and name is a remix taken from the album Jewel in the Lotus. It was made for Julian by Earthloop (Clive Mead) and is definately
designed for the club dance floor. The EP has two Radio edits, one of the
original track, and one of the Remix. It also has the full length Remix, and a heavier Dub version.
Of the track Julian says "It is great to have collaborations, for I personally never heard this song in my head, done in this fashion. The original version is more ethnic and percussive, whereas this is more electronically based, thus giving a more trancey feel to the music. It just makes you want to get up and dance arouind the room like crazy. That's a bit of a blast."

| Jewel in the Lotus review from Inner Change Magazine.com |
"Jewel in the Lotus is the musical journey of Julian Franks to India and Nepal. Franks began to paint this soundscape following a pilgrimage there. It is rich with colorful, musical imagery of mystical places"... Read the full review here |
